Remembering Mary (Keenan) Liggett

This is the tombstone of Mary Liggett in St. Mary's Cemetery on County Road 64 east of Dennison. A bouquet of flowers was placed in front of the tombstone in her memory. Maureen (Keenan) Liggett was born June 13, 1922 in Dublin, the daughter of Peter and Dorothy Keenan. She died June 12,1985 in a tragic fire in a four-family apartment at 120 S. Main St., Uhrichsville, OH. She was working in England when she met Cpl. William Liggett who was serving with the 84rd Fighter Squadron of the 78th Fighter Group as an armorer instructor.

They met in October 1944 and were married July 2, 1945 in St Mary’s Church at Baldock, near Cambridge. This is a 1945 photo of her.

Her husband was born September 26, 1918 in Colliers, WV, the son of Harry Doyle and Lillian Mary (Bilderback) Liggett. He died June 19, 1977 in Union Hospital in Dover and is buried in Union Cemetery, Uhrichsville, OH


Bill and Mary had three children before their divorce on June 15, 1967: Joyce Keenan Terazzi, Feb 12, 1947, William Patrick, March 15, 1952 and Gloria Jean McComb July 5, 1954. He remarried and had another son, Sheldon Scott February 13, 1969.
