In memory of Maureen Keenan Liggett

My brother’s wife, Maureen Keenan, died 27 years ago on June 12, 1985, a day before her 63rd birthday in an apartment fire.

Maureen Theresa Keenan was born June 13, 1922 in Dublin, Ireland, the daughter of Peter and Dorothy Keenan.

She was married July 2, 1945 in the Catholic Church at Baldock in Hertfordsire, England, to William Fenton Liggett of
Dennison, Tuscarawas County, OH, who was then serving in the U.S. Army during World War II as a corporal in England.

She died on Wednesay, June 12, 1985 in an early morning fire in an apartment complex where she lived at 120 S. Main St., Uhrichsville, Tuscarawas County, OH. A news story on page 1 of The Evening Chronicle, Uhrichsville, on Wednesday, June 12, 1985, said she was found on a couch in the living room area of her apartment. She was then living by the name Carruthers. A separtion agreement between William F. Liggett and Mary Theresa Liggett was filed May 15, 1967 and a divorce decree was issued June 15, 1967. Custody of their two minor children, William and Gloria, was given to William who was the defendant provided the children were kept and maintained in the home of their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H.D. Liggett of Dennison.

A memorial Mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 17, 1985 in Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison with the Rev. Fr. Richard Engle officiating. The body was cremated and ashes were interred in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Dennison..
