Jim Friel outlines plans as Newcomersdtown mayor

Jim Friel outlines his plans as he begins his term as mayor of Newcomerstown.

Friel knows getting the budget in line is at the top of his list of goals during his four-year term.
“Due to the economy, it is going to be a challenge,” he said. “I’ll be supporting and working with department heads to stay within the budget.”

Friel said he looks forward to working with Newcomerstown Village Council and all levels of government to move forward in a positive way. He also has projects lined up, one of which is to dress up the village in anticipation of its 200th anniversary in 2014. Friel is on the Newcomerstown Bicentennial Committee.

Friel has had plenty of experience serving the community. He has been the police chief and has served on the Newcomerstown Board of Public Affairs for eight years, Newcomerstown Village Council for four years and as Newcomerstown Chamber of Commerce president for four years.
