James A. Friel, who was unopposed, was elected mayor of Newcomerstown on Tuesday. He received 624 votes. Incumbent Mayor Steven Guy, a Republican, did not seek another term. Friel is a Democrat. The new four-year term for mayor begins Jan. 1, 2012. The current salary for mayor is $10,000 per year.
