Only six attend Class of 1948 lunch

Only six attended the DHS Class of 1948 breakfast at Dutch Valley restaurant in Sugarceek on Thursday, July 19, 2012. It was reported that Don Cable fell and broke his hip. Email was read from Tony Caputo who sent greetings to the class and... from John Pershing who is getting ready for hip surgery. He reports his two grandsons who were in Afghanistan will be out of the Air Guard this Deember. Nick will graduate from OSU this semeter. Zach graduated in the Spring of 2012 and is seking a job. All his other 6 grandchildren except one are in the Columbus area. Individual photos of class members were taken at the breakfast.  The next lunch will be at noon Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Bob Evans restaurant in New Towne Mall.

Email was read from Jack Pershing who is scheduled to have a hip replacement August 7. Pat Bente and Harry Liggett stopped at Beacon Pointe Rehab Center after lunch to visit classmate Peggy (Arnold) Heakin and showed her this photo on cell phone.  The  next get-together will be a breakfast at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 19, at Dutch Valley restaurant, 1343 Old Route 39, Sugarcreek.

An email from Jack Pershing was read.  He said he expects to have hip surgery at the end of July or first of August, but hopes to make the June luncheon.


The next lunch will be at noon Wednesday, June 13, at Chef Ernie's in (Roanoke) Uhrichsville.

9 attend DHS Class of 1948 lunch

Nine members of the Class of 1948 gathered for lunch Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Carbone’s, 413 N. Tuscarawas, Dover. A card was signed to send to the family of the late Albert A. “Sonny” Nelson Jr. Who died October 3, 2011 in the Veterans Hospital in Marion, IN. There are 16 known deceased from the class of 40. Fourteen still live in the hometown area, six live elewhere in Ohio and four live out of state. The next lunch will be at Chef Ernie’s in Roanoke (Uhrichsville) on Thursday, November 10, at noon. DHS Class of 1948 meets at Chef Ernie's

The Dennison High School Class of 1948 met Thursday at Chef Ernie’s in Roanoke (Uhrichsville) for lunch. Nine members of the Dennison High Class of 1948 met at noon Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Hog Heaven Resturant, 1290 W. High Ave., New Philadelphia. The next meeting will be a 9 a.m. breakfast on Wednesday, June 15, at Shoney's just off I-77 at Dover Exit 83 at 881 Commercial Ave. Attending this month were Frank Angelo, Carme (Cirincone) Welz, Lenora (Boughton) Dudgeon, Bill Dudgeon, Pat (Foutz) Bente, Dick Fisher, Harry Liggett, Ethel (Marty) Kleski and John Russo.

7 attend DHS get-together

The Dennison High Class of 1948 get-togethers started with a few of the girls getting together. The guys were in the majority though on Wednesday (November 10) for lunch at the Bob Evans restaurant at New Towne Mall.

Attending were Lenora (Boughton) Dudgeon, Pat (Foutz) Bente, Ethel (Marty) Kleski, John Brown, Dick Fisher and wife Judi, John Russo and wife Mary Jane and Harry Liggett. There were an even dozen at the October 20 get-together at Sugarcreek.
More are expected at the Christmas holiday lunch at noon the second Wednesday, December 8, at Pangrazio’s restaurant on Grant Street in Dennisson.

I will try to send out a reminder on that get-together.

Sad news to report: Carme (Ciricincone) Welz was injured in a fall and is now a patient at Beacon Pointe Rehab Center, 5166 Spanson Dr SE Uhrichsville, Ohio 44683.
Carme joins two other classmates who are patients there: Bill Garabrant and Peg (Arnold) Heakin and her husband, Tom.

I am trying to compile an updated list of class members with addresses, telephone numbers, birthdates, spouses full name and wedding date and email addresses. There are several classmates for whom we have little or no information.

There were 40 in our class. 13 are known deceased, 14 still live around Dennison and 13 are out of town. Eight have e-mail addresses.

Update from Dick Zeimer, DHS Class of 1948

Here's an update from DHS classmate Dick Zeimer. He and wife, Ferrell, moved to Vancouver, WA, in May.

For 31 years we lived in the San Fernando Valley of Southern California . I worked for Rocketdyne where I did structural analysis and tests of rocket engine components and for Atomics International where I did the same for nuclear reactor components. At Rocketdyne we built the rocket engines for the Atlas missiles, the engines for Apollo that put men on the moon, and for the Space Shuttle main engines.

In 1990 we moved to Deersville and ran the Mulberry Lane Bed and Breakfast for 13 years. During those years, and up to May of 2008, we were involved with many community projects. With the help of Bill Dudgeon and others, we started the Deersville Library. It had to be closed when the village sold the old church building where it was located. I got the Tappan-Moravian Trail Scenic Byway designated as a state Scenic Byway and arranged to have 1500 flowering trees planted along Route 250 at Tappan Lake . We were both active in the Deersville Community Players and the Deersville Improvement and Historic Preservation Society (DIHPS). We helped DIHPS get Deersville’s Main Street listed on the National Register of Historic Places as an Historic District. With the DCP I helped build sets for the live performances at the Community Hall and was their official photographer. I also served on the village council for several years.

Recently, I suggested to the Dennison Alumni Association that our High School building should be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. With the help of Marilyn (McCarroll) Wilson and others, this was done and a plaque was installed on the building and an Historical Marker placed in front of the building.

With another couple from Deersville we updated “The History of the Village of Deersville , 1815-1952” which was written by Homer Poulson. We added the village activities and people since 1952 and included the story of Homer Poulson’s trip across the country in a Model T Ford in 1911 with his wife and two young daughters. He kept a good diary and took many photographs which are included. This was reprinted in 2007 and is available at the Deersville General Store or from Mary Jane Engler, PO Box 2 , Deersville , OH 44693 .

In May we finally retired again and moved to Vancouver , WA near our daughter Cheri and family. We live in Fairway Village and our back yard is the 8th fairway. I get to play golf with Cheri, her husband Rick, and grandson Grant. We are not volunteering for anything for the time being.

This is a late update from the front page of the Sept. 8 Harrison News Herald. Sen.
